HP Laserjet M1136 MFP
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

when i connect the USB cable it is not recognised by my laptop

Device manager shows the laptop is connected to the above mentioned printer and the device is working properly but i am unable to install the software.

I tried via internet and also via the DVD that came along with the new printer. It says waiting for you to connect the device though my device is connected via usb port to the printer.

I checked for my windows update also.  Please help me to sort out this issue

Hi @Sentha13,

I read your post and see that during the install, the printer isn't being recognised to continue. But it is listed in the Device Manager. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.

This can happen when the printer is already recognised as the USB connection and windows doesn't detect it again.

Leave the USB cable connected, delete the printer from the Devices and Printers (if listed)  and the Device Manager.

To access the Device Manager:

Press the windows key and the X key on the keyboard at the same time in the desktop.

Then click on Device Manager from the list.

Check the connections in the Device Manager for any printer entries, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers look for USB Printing Support or anything with a yellow exclamation mark, mass storage device or unknown device. Right click and uninstall the device.

Then reconnect the USB cable and it should be detected again.

If you are still having issues, disconnect the USB cable, run the uninstall and reinstall the printer software again. Don't connect the USB cable until prompted during the install.

Hope this helps. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. Thank You.

I am also facing a similar problem as metioned in the topic of this thread.  The only difference is that I am using Windows 7 32 bit.  I did try everything that is mentioned in the forum but the problem continues.  I do have a few things I can add to the descrption of the problem so that it will help someone help me.

1. While the Installation software does not proceed beyond not recognizing the USB connection, I can however print or scan by going to the control panel, selecting the HP printer, right clicking and print and scan.  Therefore i am driven to beiieve that there is no problem in the USC cable, port or the printer.  This leaves it with the installation software in doubt.  I did all of this on my desktop.

2. I used the installation CD first and when that did not work, I downloaded a 200 MB file from HP support and ran it.  It still does not work.

2. I then did the installation using the CD on my laptop running on Windows 10 and it installed perfectly.

I bought the printer yesterday and it so frustrating that I am not able to use HP sofware for my printing, scanning and copying purposes for my personal and home business needs.  I have almost spent 8 hours in trying to resolve the problem on my own, but unable to and hence this post.

Can someone help urgently please?
