If you still have the old cartridge reinstall that cartridge and see if error is removed.Then make sure that the 2 cartridges look the same without the packing material and refit the new cartridge.Should the problem arise with the new cartridge the cartridge might be faulty.Hope this wil help.

I was able to swap the cart with a different machine. The cart works fine on the 2nd machine, and the working cart from the 'good' machine gives the same error when I move it's cartridge to the 'problem' machine.
So, the error persists with a different known working cart, and the 'problem' cart does not give an error in a different machine.
There does not appear to be any problem with the sensor (physical problem) no wear and it is in place securely. Is there any way to do something along the lines of a factory reset on this ? I guess the step after that would be replacement of either the formatter or DC controller.
