I have a M605 that printing black dots and smudging.  It is also wrinkling the paper.  I tried changing out the toner and running a cleaning cycle to see if that would help, but it is still doing the same thing.  Any suggestions?

If it is crinkling the paper there is a good chance that the fuser unit is bad. If the dots are repetitive down the page you can measure the distance between dots and a repetitive defect ruler will then tell you exactly which component is causing the issue.

  • Primary charging roller 37.7 mm (1.5 inches)

  • Transfer roller 47 mm (1.85 inches)

  • Developer roller 63 mm (2.5 inches)

  • Tray 1 pickup roller 63 mm (2.5 inches)

  • Tray 1 feed roller or Tray 1 separation roller 79 mm (3.1 inches)

  • Tray 2 feed roller, Tray 2 pickup roller or Tray 2 separation roller 79 mm (3.1 inches)

  • Printer Fuser sleeve unit or lower pressure roller 94 mm (3.75 inches)

  • Photosensitive drum 94 mm (3.75 inches)

You can remove the fuser from the back of the printer and examine the rollers for damage.
