Hi, I have an HP M608 which doesn't recognise the paper sizes A4, Letter A5 in tray 2, in the the tray menu when tray 2 is selected, paper size is set to any size. When I try to modify the size I found the 'i' icon next to sizes A4 and letter which advised the size couldn't be selected as the paper guides were not in the correct place.

I checked the tray which was undamaged. The client had another 608 so I swapped the tray but still the same issue (the tray from the faulty printer worked fine in the other 608).

I've read a few posts from users with the same issue who have replaced the size detect sensor unit and dc controller without luck.

I've also checked the set up and firmware, set up is the same as the clients working 608, the firmware is the current version.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

What happens when you insert tray 2 with plain A4 paper?

What size does the printer detect?

Hi Valsimot

Thanks for your quick reply.

With A4 inserted the printers advises any size is installed. This setting appears due to the 'I' icon appearing next to sizes A4, letter and B5 in the tray menu.

When you click on the icon the message advises the paper size cant be selected as the guides are not in the correct position. I've replaced the paper tray which didn't rectify the problem.

Remove the paper tray and inspect the interior ( probably on the left side) of the printer.

There should be switches for tray size detection. 4 levers and 4 switched, depending on the combination of switches ON/OFF the printer knows what is paper size. Moving the paper guides on the paper tray the mechanic of the tray changes the combination to levers.

Tried that, tray setting stays at any size.

You will probably need to get your printer professionally repaired.
