Printer connected with ethernet cable to network.  When select scan, network on printer screen message tells me to connect to a network...it is connected as printing works fine.  How do I get printer to recognize it is connected and be able to scan.

Hi @ggust,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern about the printer is able to print, but unable to scan. Dont worry let me help you with this.

Kindly follow the below steps :

01.Verify Network Connection

Even if printing works, scanning requires the device to fully register on the network.

Open Printer control panel → Setup → Network Setup → Ethernet Settings- Confirm Ethernet is enabled

Check the printer’s IP address is valid (not 0.0.0.0)

Run Network Test from the printer menu

02. Check Scan-to-PC Setup

Install HP Smart or Full Feature Software from HP’s website https://123.hp.com/ .

Open the app → add your printer

Ensure Scan to Computer is enabled

03.Restart Printer and Router

Power off printer and router

Wait 30 seconds

Power them back on and retry scanning

04.Test with Direct IP Scan

Scanning can be tested by accessing the printer’s EWS page.

On a PC, open browser → type printer’s IP address

Navigate to Scan → Scan to Computer

Try a test scan

05.Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can block scan features even if printing works.

Go to HP Support website -  https://support.hp.com/ .

Download latest firmware for HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

Install via USB or network update

I hope this helps.
