HP Officejet Pro X451dw

Hi everyone,

I am having problems with my HP Officejet Pro X451dw printer. On the printer, there has been an error message displaying "The indicated ink cartridges must be replaced. (K - Black)" and I only bought the new black ink cartridge (970XL)  from our local printer shop in town about a couple of days ago.

What shall I do, can anybody help?

PS: If there are no helpful solutions, I will probably sell the printer and use our second printer which is called a HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.

Many thanks,

Ben

I have solved an solution to my HP Officejet Pro X451dw Printer. The problem I had when I have this ink cartridge failure is that I had to update the printer's firmware manually as the Web Services wern't working, after it has been updated; the printer started working straight away and more than happy. 🙂

Just follow these steps below to solve your problems, including that I have included another solution if you are having problems with Web Services (HP ePrint).

How I solved problem?

  1. Go on to HP Support for Printers and Drivers. Weblink: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
  2. Enter your printer's model number, or you can let HP detect your printer automatically
  3. When the page redirect to your model's support page and downloads of software and drivers
  4. Select on what operating system you are running on, it will again redirect you
  5. After it has been redirected to your supported OS page, simply then scroll down to "Firmware" and expand until you see the download button, the download should begin.
  6. After it has downloaded, open up the downloaded file and it should start extracting the firmware file on to your computer.
  7. Let the installer find your printer
  8. After the printer has been detected, select and update
  9. Now, it will do the rest for you and say it will be updated
  10. After it has been updated, check to see if it prints without any ink failure errors or warning

If you are having problems following these steps or not sure what to do, just simply reply below on this forum thread and I am more than happy to help you with your problem! Just remember, were in a community to help each other! 🙂

Suggested solution for HP ePrint

When my Web Services (HP ePrint) was not fully working on the HP Officejet Pro X451dw, I then change the DNS addresses from automatic to manual and used the addresses I have required from this person replied on from another forum thread.

From @PrintDoc

  • Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
  • Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
  • Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
  • Select Manual DNS and enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose  another external DNS if you wish.
  • Click 'Apply'.

I hope these step-by-steps will help you solve all of your problems! 😉

With many thanks,

Ben
