Why am I getting horizontal lines when printing a spreadsheet? It’s like I was printing on ruled paper.

Hi @EB7301

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you have horizontal lines when printing can be a common issue caused by several factors. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue on your HP Smart Tank 7301.

Print a Diagnostic Page

  • On the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app, go to Setup → Tools → Printer Maintenance → Print Quality Report.
  • Look for missing colors, faded areas, or horizontal streaks.

Clean the Printhead

  • From the same menu, select Clean Printhead.
  • The printer will run a cleaning cycle and print a test page.
  • Repeat up to 2–3 times if quality doesn’t improve (avoid excessive cleaning to save ink).

Align the Printhead

  • In HP Smart or the control panel, select Align Printhead.
  • The printer will print an alignment page and may ask you to scan it.
  • This ensures cartridges are aligned properly, reducing horizontal lines.

Update Firmware and Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support site for the Smart Tank 7301.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update and drivers. https://support.hp.com/au-en/products
  • Restart your computer and printer, then test again

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
