LaserJet MFP M227fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Small office with four workstations and one network connected printer. Three computers are running Windows 7 and they all installed the printer/scanner from the HP installer without issue. The fourth machine is running Windows 10 and I can't get the install software to resolve to the printer so that I can install the scanning software. I have tried using the printer IP address, and the hostname to no avail. I can ping both the ip and hostname perfectly fine, and I even installed the printer seperately (no scanning capabilities) by using the ip/hostname successfully, but we need the ability to scan on all four machines and this last Windows 10 workstation just cannot "see" the printer.

I used the same installer for all three Windows 7 machines, LJM227-M231_UWWL_4-1_LJUWWL_4_1_Full_WebPack_1096.

As it happens, the Windows 10 installer is also LJM227-M231_UWWL_4-1_LJUWWL_4_1_Full_WebPack_1096.

Thank you for your time!

Domain environment with Microsoft App Store disabled, so we could not install the HP Scan application. I finally resolved the problem by skipping the printer installation at the end of the HP Printer Software suite entirely.

The issue was that the printer install wizard at the end of said suite could not find the printer on our network. Instead, what I was doing was adding the printer via directory (because it was added to our printer directory), but this would not apply the drivers that the scanner required. In the end, all I had to do was install the printer via hostname/IP and wait for Windows 10 to EVENTUALLY connect the dots between the drivers installed by the Printer Software Suite and the Printer itself and tada! One day and two reboots later, the printer finally realized it was an MFP and now I can print/scan/etc. as necessary.

Thank you.

Hi @dhtt,

. Good day.:) Thanks for stopping by the Hp forums. I understand that you require assistance regarding printer scanning issues.I will be glad to assist you here.

Fantastic description and fabulous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 You are a valued HP customer and I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

  • Did you bypass power strips and connect the printer directly to the wall outlet?
  • Did you try Scan and capture app for Windows 10

For a start, please uninstall the printer software by following these steps:
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  •   Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

Then reinstall the full feature software from this link and check if the scanning feature works.

This should do the trick for you.:)

If it does not please try to install HP scan and capture from this link

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.  🙂

I have the same issue and was following your instructions.  But when I tried to remove one of the drivers I got an error message that it was in use.

I managed to find the folder where these files are stored.  Can I just delete them there or at least try to?
