Hello Jim,
Thanks for the post. Great question BTW, we should place this in the FAQ section. I've included the steps below and just below that is the link to the User's guide, just in case. Good Luck!
Copy on both sides (duplex)
Copy documents automatically
1. Load the original document in the document
feeder.
2. Press Copy Menu button.
3. Use the arrow buttons to select the TwoSided menu, and then press the OK button.
4. Use the arrow buttons to select the 1 to 1
sided option or the 1 to 2 sided option, and
then press the OK button.
5. Press the Start Copy button to start
copying.
Copy two-sided documents manually
1. On the product control panel, press the Copy
Menu button.
2. Use the arrow buttons to select the Multi-Page
Copy item, and then press the OK button.
Use the arrow buttons to select the On option,
and then press the OK button to save the
selection.
NOTE: The factory-set default for automatic
copy collation is On.
4. Load the first page of the document on the
flatbed scanner.
5. Press the Start Copy button.
6. Remove the printed page from the output bin,
and then place that page in Tray 1 with the top
edge leading into the product and with the
printed side facing down.
7. Remove the first page, and then load the
second page onto the flatbed scanner.
8. Press the OK button, and then repeat the
process until all of the pages in the original
have been copied.
9. When the copy job is completed, press the Start
Copy button to return the product to Ready

Hello VasAlex,
Thanks for the post. Please tell me a little more about your system, MAC/WINDOWS? Which OS? What happens when you attempt to copy duplex? Do you get any error messages from the printer or your system? Does it perform a simplex copy without issue? I might suggest taking a look at this document pasted below, there is some great information on duplex printing. Let me know how it goes and Good Luck!

Hello again VasAlex,
Thanks for the update. So when you have a multi-page document, as an example in Word, you choose file>print>from the left menu>then ensure your printer (the 1536dnf) is selected as the printer>Under the settings menu choose the drop down menu under Print One Sided>Choose Print on Both Sides (option for orientation)>choose Print. The steps will be similar for any application that you are printing from.
You can also choose to make this setting change from the printer software. Click on the Win7 start button, choose devices and printers, select your printer and open. Under printer actions choose "see whats printing", then when the new window upens, choose printer in the top left, choose printing preference, under the printing shortcuts tab, on the right side you have the option to "Print on both sides"make your selection here, choose apply.
I hope this information helps, Good Luck!

Everything can be done as you suggest without setting the printer in multi-page copy. No need to use change the printer settings for multi-page copy. Just follow the rest of your steps, i.e., copy the first side, put the copy in the paper tray upside down before copying the second side.
