HP1505
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Since upgrading to Windows 10, HP1505 has never worked.  Read many articles, tryed to install [ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win32-en.exe] but it hanges in the middle of the process.

Until now, I've been using my notebook to print, but would sure like to be able to simply print from my desktop with windows 10.

Help needed.

@tmazda,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with printing after upgrading to Windows 10. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer software?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to do a clean install:

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjett printer entries and uninstall them.

Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Restart your computer.

Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.

Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.

Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".

Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.

Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (there is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Open run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.

Now restart your computer again.

Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.

Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.

Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.

Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.

Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL21058/bi-55362-7/ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe to download and install the printer software.

Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

Thank you for your support.  I have some questions regarding your instruction.

> Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall”

“any entries” means “any including non-HP related entries”?

> Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

Same questions here as above:  any means all including non-HP related entries as well?

> Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL21058/bi-55362-7/ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe to download and install the printer software.

I have a 32bit Win10 machine.  Do I still install the above mentioned …-win64-en.exe program?

@tmazda,

Thank you for replying,

I understand you have concern uninstalling the printer drivers. Don't worry I'm going to guide you with this.

> Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall”

“any entries” means “any including non-HP related entries”? I would suggest here is to delete only the entries which is related to HP Printer

Under Print Server properties, also just delete the entries related to HP Printer.

Coming to the download link, I'm glad you pointed out as it's for 64-Bit, please find the correct link for download: https://hp.care/2K3QcBl

I have followed your suggestions, double checked all the steps to be sure they were followed correctly.  However, the problem is still the same that the driver won't install.  It stop in the middle of the installation, not even asking to plug in the USB cable, then Windows display an error message stating that the printer installation has stopped due to a problem.

I've read other threads, but still haven't been able to find an answer.

In the mean time, the same printer is working just fine when plugged into a notebook with Win 7.  So the problem isn't with the printer I assume.

What could we do next?

@tmazda,

Thank you for replying,

As you have mentioned in your post that you are able to printer from your notebook, this clearly indicate the hardware part is functioning, this could either be an issue with the driver or the PC itself.

I've been trying so much since, and still haven't gotten the issue solved.

Anyway, is there a driver file I can use to manually install P1505 on Windows 10?  You know the "Have Disk" option or "Update Driver" option.  I've gotten to a point where P1505 shows on Device Manager and in Devices and Printers folder as "Unspecified."

I would like to manually install the driver made for Windows 10 from here not using the package installation (.exe) file.

Could you point me to a location where I can get a driver file for P1505 for Win10?

Hello David.  Thank you for your input.  But, are you sure we are taking about installing P1501?!?!

The suggested driver is for a different printer, and as I did follow your instruction and tried to install the recommended driver, it obviously didn't recognize P1505.  As a result, the driver installation process stopped at waiting for a printer to be connected to PC.

I'm looking for a basic driver for P1505 for "manual" installation via "update driver," and not an "exe" executable.

Can you help?
