5550dn
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Having problems with an old 5550dn printer.  Symptoms are:

  • 3 LEDs on the front panel all permanently on
  • Display backlit but permanently blank
  • When you power up, you get the usual 'start-up' noises.
  • 'Heartbeat' LED on formatter board permanently off
  • With USB connection, the PC can detect the printer, but no more; it won't print a test page.
  • The "Engine Test" works OK (prints an A3 size page of black lines).

We have tried a new formatter card, new flash card and a new DIMM, but no success with any of these.

Any thoughts as to what can be tried next?

If you disconnect the Operator Panel do any symptoms change?

I did not try to disconnect the Operating Panel.  However, we have resolved the problem, thanks to "stevew220".  It turned out that it was the Firmware that was corrupt.  We reloaded an image of the firmware onto the CF card using HDDRAWCOPY, then everything worked fine.  Problem solved.
