Laserjet P1109W
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I am trying to create a custom paper size, specifically 3.70 in. width by 4.30 in. height, and the custom size function refuses to accept the size.

Background:

System is new build from 1/2019, Windows 10, most software was migrated over from earlier computer ( win7 upgrade to win 10 )

Using Microsoft office 365 student version. Printer is a HP Laserjet P1109W. Approx 6-9 years old.

The custom paper size a label 3.70 in wide by 4.30 in high.

Last week, I started getting many “user intervention required” error messages. Also “printer driver missing” error messages. After getting by “APP BLOCKED BY ADMIN” dialog box, did a full re-install of all drivers & software from the original disc.

Now, when I try to create a new page size noted above, it either defaults to a height of 5 in. or when I can make the correct size, Microsoft Publisher can’t see it. It DOES see the 3.70 by 5 in page size.

We have been using this custom paper size for almost 30 years, back to when I was using a Laserjet 5L for the labels. ( yea, ive been making them that long)

I could adjust all my files in Publisher to adjust for the length of 5 in, but that means every file will have to be manually done. With over 900+ files, not an option I want to pursue.

Several thoughts come to mind, firstly that the age of the printer might be at fault, as that is a long time to be using a specific series, and that I may have to upgrade the hardware. But I would be very grateful if someone has a driver/software workaround. Thanks for any suggestion in advance..

No, that did not work.  When I am in the create custom paper size dialog box, I can set the width parameters to 3.70 inches, but when I attempt to set the height to 4.70 inches, as soon as I click "SAVE", the height input box changes to 5 inches & saves the file.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check drivers.

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

If the issue persists, Delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-laserjet-pro-p1109-printer-series/8501... to download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Try to print.

Hi Raj

Still no fix.

Went & deleted drivers at root level as instructed, then:

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-laserjet-pro-p1109-printer-series/8501... to download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Was unable to run the download, so I took the original disc that came with the printer & loaded via that. So at this point:

I can create a "new form" in the print server properties area.

I can create a "new page size" in publisher.

BUT if I attempt to create a custom paper size in the printing preferences dialog box, a 3.70" X 4.30" reverts to 3.70" X 5.0" paper option.

Publisher can see the 3.7 X 5 size in the "usable paper sizes" dialog box, but none of the 3.7 X 4.30 paper sizes. I have not many any changes to the publisher software, and this is the same Publisher software I was running 2 weeks ago when the problem first appeared.

Any suggestions?

@DragonMarsh

Just create a new form in the print server properties, then select the new form before you print.

The driver CD shipped with the printer may contain an older version of the driver. Please download and install the full feature software from the below link.

If you are still facing issues creating a new form in the print server properties, then follow the below steps.

Please press Win + R on your keyboard to get the Run Dialog box.

Type spool and press enter or click on the OK button.

This will bring up the spool folder. Right on the 'PRINTERS' folder and select properties.

On the printer properties popup, click on the Security tab.

Provide Full Control to all the users listed there. Apply the changes.

Now open devices and printers from the control panel.

Right-click on your printer and select printer properties.

On the printer properties popup, select the Security tab and provide full control/access.

Apply the changes and restart the computer and try to print.
