Thank-you for your prompt replSome comments on your last posting:

a)  I did not have any installer error prior to finishing the installation - it went very smoothly and the printer is functioning normally

b)  I am away from home and do not have the CD for installing the driver other than what may have been saved on my hard drive and that may be the corrupt driver that HP Installer Setup is trying to install

c)  I entered the %temp% as requested and I have two 7z" files:

7zS78C5

7zS785C

Both created 1/19/2012 5:52 PM and neither having a "util" file/folder.

Just for "fun" I searched for "L4uninstall.exe" and couldn't find it nor did a search for "uninstall" come up with anything pertinent...did get Uninstall Quicken and also an uninstall whose "target location" was "setup and which listed as "Target":

"C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\{DBC1DE57-B55A-4D57-9769-1DB9BE506AF7}\setup\hpzscr40.exe" -datfile hposcr46.dat -onestop -forcereboot

and further stated to "Start in"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\{DBC1DE57-B55A-4D57-9769-1DB9BE506AF7}\setup\hpzscr40.exe" -datfile hposcr46.dat -onestop -forcereboot

Not certain if any of the above is germane to the issue, but the "Setup" caught my eye as it is "HP Installer Setup" that keeps trying to start and install the printer driver

Since I am unable to locate the "util" or "CCC" folders, where do I go now?

Thanks and regards,

Larry

Hi Wood-Man,.

Follow the steps below to scrub the software, and then reinstall it..

  1. Open %temp%, and delete all files in this folder. There may be some files which may still be in use, and you can choose skip for those files.
  2. Download the full feature software and drivers

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-80511-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=

  1. Double click on the downloaded file to extract the files
  2. When the software install window opens press Cancel or Exit to close the installer
  3. Type %temp% in the run field or search for programs and files.
  4. Look for folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
  5. Right click on the 7z folder, and choose copy
  6. Close the %temp% window, and then right click in the middle of your desktop, and chose paste
  7. Open the 7z folder
  8. Open folder Util
  9. Open folder CCC
  10. Run the Uninstall_L4, and then follow the on screen instructions to remove all the software.
  11. When the software has been removed restart your computer
  12.  Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
  13.  Open the 7z folder on the desktop, and run the setup.exe file to reinstall the printer.

Let me know if you still have the same issues?

One question/comment

You have a mis-type - or so it appears  - on steps 12, 13 and 14. Not certain what order they are to go. Would you please re-send with a clarification of these steps?

Thanks and regards,

Larry

Hi Larry,

The number 14 should not have been there. I corrected the instructions in that post. Let me know what happens?

I followed everything in this thread but it just didn't work and that pesky installer porgram just kept coming up...Almost as bad as a virus.Awful piece of software.

4580 printer not working although my nerwer 5740 printer works fine.(As I now have two printers, the 5740 is far more superior.

Managed to fix this irritating program by downloading the 4580 setup program and getting it to uninstall all of the 4580 printer program. It worked and the blasted installer is no longer trying to installi every five seconds.

Not too worried about the 4580 at the moment, pretty sure I can get it working again as the software screwed up for some reason.

Nope no good.Re-installed got to 100% then error and that was it game over..Then that stupid installer program started it's nagging routine yet again.

Only two options now...either find out what the problem is or totatly unisntall again rendering the 4580 a useless paperweight.

Unsatisfactory.
