Hello,
I've probably been using my LaserJet Pro m1217nfw MFP printer for 5 years now with a compatible cartridge. It worked perfectly fine for a while, but stopped working properly a year or two ago.
When going to the system menu on my browser, it says that my printer is using a non-HP cartridge (which it is) and there are 10.3100 error codes in the event log.
I've read online that there's a way to disable the cartridge protection on that menu, but the "settings" tab that the option is supposed to be under isn't available. Is the option hidden somewhere, or am I screwed? (Image attached below.)
I have details about what happens when I try to print, but because they're not really relevant to my question I didn't include them here. If you need those details let me know.
Thanks,
Vox

Cartridge protection is a feature that allows you to "lock" a cartridge to one printer so that it cannot be removed and used in a different printer, it had nothing to do with using non-HP cartridge, at least that is how it is explained in training.

You don't really need to do anything or worry about the error codes you found, or about cartridge protection. The error codes are simply stating that the toner cartridge that is installed and you're using is not an original HP cartridge. It does not affect your use of the cartridge. It's just HP's way of making sure you know it's not an OEM cartridge. The reason why you can't disable Cartridge Protection is because it's not enabled.
Cartridge Protection is used to keep a cartridge installed in one printer from being used in another printer. So, if you install a new cartridge in your printer, it codes it to that printer, and if you were to then move that cartridge into a different printer, it would prevent it's use in that new printer.
There is another printer feature that can be enabled to prevent the printer from using non-OEM cartridges at all, but I don't think either of these features are enabled on your printer.
You stated, "stopped working properly a year or two ago". So what are the problems you're experiencing?
