How can I get to the space under the glass of my printer to clean? It doesn't cause any issues with printing, but if I'm scanning, a black smudge appears down the center of the scan because it's coming through the paper.

The underside of the glass is not designed to be cleaned and rarely does it require cleaning unless you are using the device in a very dirty environment. More typical is that you have some type of smudge that is reflecting that these are not always easy to see. Take one of the bad copies and set it down face up and the smudge should line up with any debris on the glass. You can also compare copies made through the ADF with copies made off the flatbed glass to eliminate a possible problem with the flatbed.

There will be no official instructions on cleaning the underside as HP considers the scanner to be a whole unit replacement part, however you may find 3rd party videos on YouTube that show the steps to disassembly.
