Hi,
I have bought the printer in a bankruptcy auction and the printer is blocked with an admin password like this post

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/How-to-Reset-LaserJet-MFP-M577-without-the-Admin-Acc...

@Ripeiratrouper, could you please PM me the solution too?

Thanks
Palmer

No sadly I am referring to the hardware formatter board in the printer. It is the "ultimate" in security as it means a stolen device is near useless to the thief. I have run into very few clients that actually program a password for the pre-boot admin menus. Any chance you can contact the original owner to see if they can assist?

You need to turn off the printer. Restart and watch the screen, when you see 1/8 appear under the HP logo, immediately touch the HP logo. This will start the printer in pre-boot mode. Use the arrow buttons on the screen to scroll down to administrator and press OK. Use the buttons to select partial clean. press ok twice. Nothing will appear to happen. Then use the back arrow until you see continue and select it. Printer will restart and reinstall firmware. YOU WILL LOSE ALL USER SETTINGS ON THE PRINTER INCLUDING THE ADMIN PASSWORD.  There is no default password, but depending on firmware version you may need to set a password before you can do anything on the printer for setup.

Hi Repaitrooper,
Apparently I am still stuck. Even after touching the HP Logo it keeps on asking for the Admin passwd.
I do not know if it is important but I forgot to say that the HDD is blank new HP L41606-011.

I have a copy of the firmware cljM577_fs5.9.0.2_fw_2509087_000098.bdl  from this very HP website on a usb drive that I have connected to the usb port on the bottom side. Shall I maybe use an older version of the firmware?
I will do a new attempt to follow your instruction and make a video and report back,  so you have a clear knowledge of what happen.
Thanks so far.

Hi Repairatrooper,
I have given another try following your instructions but besides the fact that the error persist, I have also noticed that there is an error that shows up on the screen. "Error 99.09.67 - Disk not bootable".
Indeed, I have installed a new empty HP L41606-011 disk in the printer. It was auctioned without it.
When I continue to select Administrator following your suggestion
I get stuck with the password request. (See attached screenshots)
What else can I try? As mentioned in my previous reply, I have a copy of the firmware cljM577_fs5.9.0.2_fw_2509087_000098.bdl on a usb dongle. Canit helps?Kind regards
Palmer

Looking into the menu structure for preboot, the only way to remove the password is for you to have it in the first place. This means you will likely have to replace the formatter to get rid of the password. I can find no published work around in HP documentation.

Hi Repairatrooper,
When you say "replace the formatter", you do not mean the HDD I just bought, do you?
Rather " the firmware on board that formats the HDD", right?
If I get you correctly, there is no known way to get the printer factory reset with no password or maybe a default password installed.
In essence, I have just to through the printer into the recycler bin. ☹️
At your knowledge, is there a paid support option from HP or a repair shop I could bring it in ?
I have hard time to believe there is no other cold reset available.
Thanks so far

Hi, Repairatrooper,
I bought it in an auction of a bankrupcy. Not way to get any info from the old company
I bit the bullet and disposed it in the recycler bin .
My bad.

Thanks for your help though.
