How do I connect an old HP 1200 Laserjet printer to my Envy 750 qe 420 CTO desktop. The printer has a 25 pin large connector that is looking for a printer port which is of course not on my tower back

Hi,

The specs says it has USB 2.0 connection:

       https://www.cnet.com/au/products/hp-laserjet-1200/specs/

and the User Guide says it has USB port:

Hi,

At the back of your new computer may look similar to the following image

Figure : Odense2-S back I/O panel
Odense2-S back I/O panel
  1. USB 2.0: 2
  2. LAN (Ethernet)
  3. HDMI
  4. USB 3.0: 2
  5. Audio: Line in
  6. Audio: Line out
  7. Audio: Microphone

Your ancient printer has USB 2.0 connection

    https://www.cnet.com/au/products/hp-laserjet-1200/specs/

That means you can connect them using a cable (USB) similar to the following one:

                  USB printer cable

It also has LAN connetion therefore you can use network.

The big problem is not physical connections but drivers. Hope Windows can give a generic driver for you to print otherwise it's time to buy a new printer.

Regards.

No it has the large 25 pin connector

So are you saying I need a second cable to connect to 25 pin connector that plugs into  USB port on my tower?

Also where would I check for software drivers for the HP 1200 Laserjet?

Hi,

1. Cable: you need a new cable as shown on my first reply. Yur new computer does not have connection for parallel cable (25pim). I may say all new consumer computers now don't have parallel port.

2. Drivers: Please try:

   The Universal drivers may help.

Yes a new cable but do you mean a new cable running directly from the printer or a new cable attaching to the end of the existing cable and in effect transforming the signal?

Hi,

I think I posted the cable image on my very first reply, it only has 2 ends, one for printer and one for computer. I also said only use new cable, old cable won't do anything, can put to thr bin.

I see no other ports on the HP Lasejet 1200 printer to connect a different cable. Where would such a port be?

Thank you that totally clears up where  USB cable would connect to HP Laserjet 1200. Now I will get the cable and see if a generic software driver on the Desktop will allow printing.
