I am using a HP Laserjet Pro 200 Color M251n with my iMac connected via UBS with print sharing on to enable sharing on my local network.
When I try to access the printer wireless from other devices on the same network, the printer does appear however connection is not established "The printer is not connected" and I am not able to print from any other device (Macbook in this case).
How do I set up my printer / IMac to allow printing from other devices on the same network?

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Flower_Bud is at your service.
As I understand, you're getting an error message "Printer is not connected"
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
When was the last time it worked fine?
Were there any hardware/ software changes made?
Make sure printer is connected to a Wireless network connection.
You could follow steps from the link to connect the printer to network: https://hp.care/2JloAu6.
Keep me posted,
Have a great day 🙂
Cheers 🙂

Thanks,
It has been working on and off independent of hardware / software changes....
Please note that this is a M251n (without the "w") and it is not possible to configure the connection to the network on the printer itself (there is no wifi buton)
The link brings me back to this same page....

Thank you for your response.
As @Flower_Bud is out of the office today, I'm replying to you. I truly appreciate your patience and efforts.
You could convert the USB connection to a wireless connection. Please follow the steps mentioned in "Mac" from this HP document: https://hp.care/2GEG6Ur
NOTE: Always add the printer as Airprint. (Click the Use or Print Using menu, and then select AirPrint to complete the setup.)
I genuinely hope this information helps. Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
Cheers! 🙂

Thanks again
I must be overlooking or missing something completely....
- There is no wireless set-up option in my HP utility
- There is no network / wireless setup option on my printer
In meant time, somehow I am able to print from my macbook again wirelessly (my printers is connected via UBS to my Imac where I enable sharing on the network using bonjour)...... Whereas at the same time according to my utility and the printer the device is not connected to a network....???
Two questions:
- I am fine having my printer connected with ubs to my imac, enable sharing from there and use it wirelessly on my other devices. However this connection does not seem to be stable, could you explain how to solve this? I did try to restore default network settings on my printer, it kept blinking "restoring" for a day after which I switched the printer off and on again, after which it suddenly started printing again from my Macbook.....
- I do want to be able to connect my printer on the network wireless using printer or utility, could you check again how this is doen for my particular printer, the link you sent my does not seem to apply to the printer I am using?
- I am curretnly not able to update the firmware for my printer because the printer indicates that it is not connected to the network......could you clarify how to update the firmware?

You're welcome.
Glad to know that the printer is able to print wirelessly again (through printer sharing).
It was my bad. The HP LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251n is not wireless capable. This printer can only be connected via USB or ethernet cable.
Currently there is a firmware update that can be downloaded on Windows operating system only. If you have a Windows PC then please download and run the firmware update via this link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL44532/lj-108129-8/M251_color_Series_FW_Update-20150212....
NOTE: The printer should be connected to the Windows PC while running the firmware update. Once the firmware update is successfully installed, please restart the printer.
Hope this information helps. Cheers! 🙂
