As indicated on my subject.

HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw

How do I enable a password for all users BEFORE they can print?

Basically, we want to restrict printing using a password. Maybe the password will be entered on the printer itself.
Is there a way please?

I'm not sure if this is available on this model. But on some machines you do have a feature for private or department printing. But like i say i'm not sure on this model or product. If you do not find anything i will look out for this post and search the manual.

Hey. Thanks so much for the reply. I appreciate it. Trying to look for ways to do this. I just need a document that says that this model isn't capable of password printing, then it's fine.

I found that this option is available but never setup this before.

Job storage/PIN-protected printing (Requires a 16 GB or greater USB thumb drive.)

This is noted in the user manual and can do what you need.Hope this resolves your question.

Just browsed the manual.
Put the USB. Did the setup for Job Storage.
But I think the Pin(Password) will only appear if the user wants the document to ask for a password before printing.

Personal Job
The job does not print until you request it at the printer control panel.
For this job-storage mode, you can select one of the Make Job Private/Secure options:
  • If you assign a personal identification number (PIN) to the job, you must provide the required PIN at the control panel.
  • If you encrypt the job, you must provide the required password at the control panel.

Not really what I intend in finding out.

I was hoping that ALL USERS will be RESTRICTED from printing, unless they enter the PIN (Password).

There might be software like job accounting available for this type of request but i never had to enquire about this before.Maybe there is a moderator available on the forum that can assist in this matter.I hope this will help you out.
