I am trying to connect this printer to my imac, when I go into setting and hit the + sign it finds the printer however it is trying to set up as a scanner only. What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have experience installing this printer to there imac that has MAC OS 10.13

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I could help

Please ensure your Mac has all the latest updates and download the Firmware update from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-LaserJet-P1600-Printer-series/4110408/model/4110...

May I know how is the printer connected?

Do you have other devices that prints from the same printer?

Keep me posted

Thank you and have a great weekend 😊

It looks like you were interacting with @KrazyToad, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.

As per the printer specifications available here, HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn is not wireless compatible, however, you may connect the printer to you home network using an Ethernet cable. You may use the steps available here to setup the printer over a Wired Network. Once the printer is connected to your network, use the steps below to enable Web services and use the e-Print feature:

1.) Make sure that the Ready light () is on and that the product is idle and silent. Press and hold the Go button (), and release it when the Ready light () begins blinking. The Configuration page prints.

2.) Find the printer IP address on the Network Configuration.

Example of a printer IP address.

3.) On your computer, open an Internet browser.

4.) Type the printer IP address in the browser address bar, and then press Enter.

5.) If a website security certificate displays in the Internet browser, click Continue.

6.) On the EWS(Embedded web server) webpage, click the Web Services tab. If a Web Services Setup page displays, click Continue, Turn On, or Enable, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Once you enable web services, use the steps available here to print using HP ePrint.

Let me know how it goes!
