I am having the same issue but to do not want to use the envelope print feature in Word.  I have 60+ custom designed envelopes to print and it's crazy I cannot manually tell the printer to pull from tray 2.  I cannot walk to another room for an hour and manually feed and select "ok" for each envelope.

I have changed the paper source to tray 2 in the print preference for this specific document and for the printer as a whole and it still wants to run all the envelopes through the manual feed.  Please help - this is a DEAL BREAKER for HP printers that think they are smarter than their users.

Hi,

May you clarify your printer model?

Many (if not most) printers only support plain paper on tray 2 while any other paper types are supported on tray 1 only..

e.g. the HP Officejet Pro 8600 or the  8700 Series, as listed under Paper-handling specifications > Paper tray capacities..

Please load your paper into tray 2, your envelopes to tray 1 and change the paper settings.. for any further help knowing your printer model would be the first step..

I am having the same problem. My printer is the HP laserjet pro-MFP M281 fdw. I know this printer allows envelopes to be printed from Tray 2 because it has an impression of the envelope with loading instructions at the bottom of the tray. I am trying to print multiple envelopes from a PDF file. I can hand-feed them into Tray-1 and it works.  The problem is that I have over 100 customers to send envelopes to and I don't have the time to feed them individually.

Never used HP M281 before but can you put envelopes into tray2 and fit them nicely?

If it does try to select heavy paper/card/rough paper....... to see it can print from tray2 or not.

Thanks for your quick reply.  Yes, I can place them in tray 2 and adjust the side guards so that envelopes fit nicely.  I forgot to mention that the envelopes easily glide through the machine onto the output tray; they just don't have the addresses printed on them. The interesting thing is that I can run a test print using regular letter sized paper front tray-2 and the printing appears.

i know this is late but i finally figured out the solution. When you insert envelopes in tray 2 and push the tray back in it will recognize that you have loaded #2 envelopes. For whatever reason this does not work. Instead change the size from #10 envelope to "Any Size" on the printer itself. This worked for me as I too had issues of the return address not printing.
