HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw

I just purchased new ink cartirdges to replace in my printer. When it was time to close the tray, the left side would no longer click the tray down, not allowing the tray go back in.

I've been trying to figure out the issue for a few weeks now. So far no other forum or video link has helped resolve the issue.

Hi @KCAM123

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

Open the printer’s front door. Grasp and pull the blue handle on the toner cartridge drawer to open it. Grasp the handle of the cartridge you need to replace, then pull it straight up to remove it from the slot. Set the toner cartridge aside for recycling. Remove the new toner cartridge from its packaging by pulling the release tab to open it. Grasp the toner cartridge and gently rock it back and forth to evenly distribute the toner. Fingerprints on the imaging drum can cause print quality problems. Insert the new toner cartridge in the drawer. Push the toner cartridge drawer as far as it will go, then close the printer’s front door.

Also, You may check out this video by HP, which clearly explains the process.

Please let me know if it worked out. 😉

Hi, thank you for your response but I understand how to remove and insert new ink cartridges.

It is the tray that is not locking into place allowing me to push it back in to close. The last time this has worked without any issues was the last time I needed to open and pull out the tray to replace the cartidges.

The problem is that the tray isn't locking into place once I begin to push it in.

I will try and help.Could not find a manual in time to be sure.Try and remove the toner cartridges.Close the tray and door and see if that works.Should the door close replace the toner cartridges one by one and close the door.Should the door not close without the cartridges check the rails the tray slide on for obstruction.Hope this will help.

Yes! So that's the issue. The tray actually goes in when I remove the cartridges, but say I just had the Cyan in, the tray will close up until it reaches the cyan cartridge (or any of the cartridges) and then will no longer budge to go in.
