Hi Daniel,
Open the HP Officejet Pro 9010 software from your desktop and select Scan.
Click on Scan a Document or photo, and then select Save as Editable Text (OCR)
Click Scan and follow the steps on screen to scan to OCR, you may select RTF or TXT.
Please let me know if you were able to complete the scan successfully.

Hi
thanks for your help, I am now using the correct procedure and have found the desktop icon and tried to open the scan dialogue but got a message that "communication cannot be established"
I followed the advice on the message and updated the IP address, it now works fine.
Thank you so much for you help and patience
regards
Daniel

I believe that can be done.
When you select Save as Editable Text, click More > and select the Destination tab.
Click the File Type drop-done menu, then you will be able to change the OCT language within the bottom drop-down menu, select Japanese if available within the supported languages list.
