I keep getting notifications that the update for printer fails. This is the message "HP - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Fax - HP Officejet 5740 series" The printer functions, I also saw that there was new software available for this printer but not sure if I could install that with Windows 10

Hi @Gwpmd,
Once the printer is working, the option would be to ignore the printer software updates or you can try these external resources, that have some advanced steps.
One poster tried the Show or hide updates and it resolved their issue.
- How to "Hide Update" on Build 9926
- Need the old Windows Update, not the new Windows Update
- Windows 10 - Where is the "Hide or unhide updates" feature hidden
- How can I hide that Update in Windows 10 ?
- How do I hide Windows Update, Windows 10 Build 10061?
You can also give feedback to Microsoft and hopefully they will release an update to correct the feature in the operating system. You can learn how here; Updates and feedback.
Thank You.

Hi @Gwpmd,
I understand that you are having issues with installing the printer since upgrading to Windows 10. I would be happy to help you.
I would suggest to uninstall the old printer software and then download and install the latest software.
Here is the URL for the drivers. HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software as suggested but the error message " Hewlett-Packard - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Print - HP Officejet 5740 series - Error 0x8024200b", remains.

It sounds like you are just throwing possible solutions out to try but that you don't really know what the problem is. Reinstalling the software didn't work for me, and why would I want to hide an update I need? And if I don't need it, then why do I keep getting it? You said it was a Microsoft issue, but isn't it an HP update. A lot of people have had this issue for sometime now, and here it is almost a year since your response but a Google search shows people still dealing with it. I'm tried of having this problem, and it needs a solution and to not be swept under the rug.
