HP LaserJet 4250
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am a novice and trying to install an HP 4250 on my home network that I was able to pick up from a friend who got rid of it from his business.  It worked fine and was networked in his business so I know it is set up to be able to operate on a network.  I would like to set it up on my home network and need help for how to do so.  I connected the printer to my home router with an ethernet connection and then have tried to add a new printer.  I then try to add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.  I then choose to create a new port and  choose a standard TCP/IP port.  I then use the IP address on the JetDirect page I got when printing off a configuration page from the printer.  The next step then tells me that "the device is not found on the network" and it ask me to check that the device is turned on, the network is connected, the device is properly configured, and the address fro the previous page is correct.  Well, I checked and the address is correct, the printer is turned on, and the network seems to be connected and functioning as an old printer is found and recognized and multiple devices can  connect to the network.  I do not know what else to check at this step in terms of the device configuration.

The message states that if I am sure that the address is correct, I can try to move to the nex step and choose the device type.  In the dropdown box I can find a listing for a Hewlett Packard JetDirect Ex (single port) or a Hewlett Packard JetDirect Ex (multi port).  I thinnk i have a single port as there is only one eternet plug on the card on my printer.  When I choose that, the next step goes on to generate a list of drivers and I navigate to HP and find a few drives that look like they could work.  They are: HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6 Class Driver or HP LaserJet 4250 PS Class Driver.  I have tried both options and neither one ends up working.  I ran a troubleshooter and got the following problem message:

Printer HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6 Class Driver cannot be contacted over the network.

It then tells me to contact my network administrator in order to address the problem and that is as far as I can get.  There are a bunch of other things listed by the troubleshooter, but they are all listed as checking out OK.

Can anyone please help me to resolve this problem and get this printer working on my home network?

Hello, when you printed the config page with the IP address you are using, is it from the old network it was on? What I would do, is go to the control panel and go into the network setting and change the IP address from manual to DHCP. After that, I would print a config page again and see if the IP address changes. If it does, then try to install again. If you are able to locate and install the printer, I would then set the IP address to manual with the new IP address. Almost sounds like you are using an IP address from the previous owner.

Hope this helps....

Thanks so much for your reply.  That was the issue!  My device did not have a control panel tab, but with some looking around I was able to find the DHCP tab and change things.  A new IP was generated and now things are printing.  I then went back and changed it to manual again and it kept the new IP for the printer.  THanks again and I really appreciate the assistance in getting things up and functioning!
