HP Laserjet 4000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just recently got a very old HP Laserjet 4000 printer (20-25 years old) that should work fine, however I don't get it on my network so that I can print with it. Another community member stated that I should get a 610N or 620N card and that should work. Now upon further inspection it already DOES have a 615N card in it. My question is , how would I go about trying to hook it up to my network if I want to see if this 615N will work. In all honestly, I'm not really sure what I'm doing but it seems as though I might have a driver issue as the drivers for this printer seem to be too old to run with Windows 10 - but what do I know?

If anybody, could walk me through how to try and set this up, I would be forever grateful!

Thank you

You need to confirm that the 615n actually works, as they are failure prone. With a network cable attached, print a configuration page.  If the card is working, you should get an extra configuration page with network settings on it. If the IP V4 address is on the same network as your other computers then likely the card is in DHCP mode and you can just install. If the card is in manual mode you will need to either put it in DHCP mode or set the address from the Control Panel. You will find the network settings under the setup menu.

Amazing - thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question...the second part of my problem was the driver and I have included how to get the driver from Paul Tikkanen below. Between both of your advice I was able to successfully get my 18 year printer to work.

Thank you again!!

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try this...

Assuming you are running W10 64 bit on your PC, download and save the 6th driver on the list from the link below...

Microsoft driver update for HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL6

http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=HP%20Laserjet%204000

Then download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the printer driver file you saved.

Select 7-Zip from the list of items you see.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name.

Then use the add printer wizard to install your HP LaserJet 4000 printer, when you get to where you need to install the driver, click on Have Disk and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created>prnhp001, and select the HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL6 printer from the list and the driver should install.

Hopefully, that will work for you.
