Despite trying three new toner cartridges, pages still print with smears and the green drum holds toner. Is there something else I can do to keep this great, easy, convenient printer? Thanks

Can you please explain more in detail?
Maybe you can provide a printout?

Sorry, I can't provide example as I no longer have any printouts or toner cartridges. I've actually taken the 4P back from my trash pile as I bought a new printer and am frustrated by not being able to simply feed envelopes and checks into the opening at the front of the 4P (a great design I miss.)

The problem is that the printer, despite trying new toner cartridges, would add shaded toner on the pages - light shades of background. The green roller in the cartridge would retain toner with each printing. I'd wipe the toner off the roller, but with each new printing the shaded toner would return. This happened over four different toner cartridges. Is there something else to replace? Thank you for any suggestions.

That sounds more like a charging issue. Check all the contacts, on the foamy roller that preses against the fotocylinder.

I've cleaned the contacts and the roller (I never knew it was there) with alcohol (it was very encrusted with toner). I've ordered another toner cartridge and will let you know how it goes. Thanks a lot!

Thanks again for helping with my toner issue. Now the darn thing won't print. I just posted this (but thought to ask you as you've already been right on top of my previous issue:

I just added a printer but want to keep my old HP 4P (easy for envelopes and checks.)

However, when I try to print anything to the printer, nothing prints. I've tried to troubleshoot with the following steps:

- Removed and reloaded the driver

- Ensured the printer can print by printing test docs

- Proved the connecting wire is OK by trying it on another PC to the 4P

- As per suggestions, designated the 4P as the default printer

- Tried the USB connector on different plug in points on the PC.

- Matched all the port designations. etc. with the PC that did work

All-in-all, it just seems that no signal is leaving the PC to the printer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Sorry for the delayed answer.
Can you please tell me what windows version are you using?
Is the printer set as default?
Did you try to restart the print spooler service on your computer?
Does it print on other pc?
