Is there a secret to getting checks to print straight?

I print business checks on this laser printer and it is driving me crazy that they print crooked. I've tried everything. It's not all the time, but most of the time. Printer is brand new - 2 weeks old. But it happened with my older one I had to replace (same model)

I understand the desire to purchase very inexpensive printers but if you are doing difficult media like cheques you should get a machine that will handle it. The minimum machine we tell our customers to purchase for this sort of application would be an M404 series printer or M428 if you need scanning and copying.
