I have performed a cold reset and then upgraded the firmware for a HP LaserJet flow MFP M525 (CF118A) version 4.10 (FutureSmart 4). After the firmware upgrade, when I try to access Contacts from the Scan/Digital Send Page to configure LDAP, I get a “An unexpected error occurred. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again”. I have tried rebooting the printer but does not resolve the issue. Is this a bug in the firmware?

Not a bug in the firmware unless it only affects the 525. My 577 does not throw any error when I try to access the contacts page and happily offers the LDAP options, however I do not have an LDAP server on my current network.
You state that you performed a cold reset. Did you format the harddrive through the preboot menu when you performed the cold reset? If not, I would try that as a first option. There are sometimes issues upgrading from older version to newer ones if you do not format the drive.
