LaserJet m452dn
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

We have a laserjet m452dn that started displaying a "Jam in tray 1" error.   I combed the machine thoroughly, and I mean really really thoroughly and found nothing.  The error only occurs when tray 1 is closed and has no paper, and the print job is set to auto select.  If tray 1 is open and has paper, it prints fine.  If the computer selects tray 2 (whether tray 1 is open or not) instead of auto select, it prints fine.

I tried changing the driver from the one found in the downloads page of the product, to generic hp PCL 6 drivers, but that did not help either.

Make sure that the paper load flag in tray 1 (1 in picture) moves freely, we have had cases there the slide out tray extension (2) gets jammed in too far and binds against the flag when the door is closed. If any part of the door is broken it can also cause alignment issues.

Hey Trooper, thanks for the response!

The black piece moves freely even when the extension tray is not pulled out.  On mine there is a guard over the black piece so nothing should cause it to get stuck when tray 1 is closed.

If the flag is moving properly then I would perform a factory reset. Sometimes they get corrupted and that is the best and quickest fix.
