HP Laserjet Enterprise M506
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have recently upgraded to Win 10 and installed new printers. They initially worked, but after a week it keeps asking to enter "Admin" or "User" or "Service" user pin. Can anyone tell me what the default pin is for the M506 and can we stop it from happeing again?

When i googled it. It advised to put printer IP into webpage and got into settings that way, this didnt work so hoping for another solution please.

Hi Slezrow,

You will have to do a partial clean via the preboot menu of the printer.

If you are still locked out, then you must go to the EWS and clear any password for accessing the printer.

If you need more details on how you can do all these, feel free to send me a private message.

Thanks Alex. I actually used the cold restart which got rid of the issue of a pin. Still would like to know why it happened to see if i can prevent it from happening again. The printers were only installed for a week before they displayed this error.

This can happen only through the EWS, so either someone edited the password field from there or that happened accidentaly or by mistake. Only those who have access to the printer's IP address can change it. This is why I would suggest to have an admin password for accessing the printer's EWS.

Unfortunately we do not access to EWS. On this network we have a mixture of pull printers and these ones which are just networked and added to terminals via the IP address. Could the system be trying to treat the M506 as a pull print?

I have been told one of the printers that i completed a master reset is again asking for a user/ Admin pin
