LaserJet 1022n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Fresh install of Win 10 1809, Dell Precision M6500, LJ 1022n on wired network, Windows found printer and installed it but print jobs repeat endlessly.  Deleted and reinstalled multiple times with different drivers (1020, 3050, etc.) but same result.  Tried installing full featured package from 123.hp.com; it loads and finds printer then hangs.  Printer works properly from another computer on the same network.

I have run the DISM and SFC system repair tools with no improvement in printer function.

With a direct USB connection, I was able to load the HP Smart app and complete the installation.  However, the printer now shows "offline" thru the network connection; USB printing is fine.  The other Win 10 (1511) laptop still prints fine.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which helps in resolving common printing and scanning problems such as missing or corrupt print drivers, connectivity issues etc.

Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93

If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Same issue as before.  I uninstalled all printers as described above,  then downloaded the HP Easy Start installer.  It finds the printer with correct model number and IP address then sits and spins at "Checking your software needs..."

Next, I installed the printer using the Windows Update driver and then ran Scan Doctor.  It said it fixed an error  but when I did a test print, I got the same repeating print job problem.  The test page from Scan Doctor looks like it is geared toward a color printer; is that normal?

Let's uninstall the driver once again and you may use the Windows built-in driver to install: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

I uninstalled, then reinstalled using the directions provided with the same result.

I reloaded Windows 10 1809 with no applications installed:  Same result.

I have done that process.  The spooler seems to work normally and the ..\spool\printers file is empty.  I have had to cancel each print job as I went along in order to stop printing.

Download and run Revo uninstaller from Google to remove all the printer files from your PC.

And install the full feature printer software.

Hope this helps!

Revo shows no sign of any printer files.

...and, Easy Start still hangs at "Checking software".

Since the problem exists even with a new install of Win 10, may there be an incompatibility with 1809?

I installed with Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, Version 1809.
