Laser Jet Pro MFP M225dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Laser Jet Pro MFP M225dn suddenly stopped being able to scan to email. I'm running Windows 10 Pro on a new HP 470 G5 laptop. I can scan the page, but when I try to send it says there is no default email software installed. This was working yesterday. Here are steps taken to resolve.

  • Checked that Outlook is set as the default email
  • Checked for Windows updates since yesterday (none)
  • Installed Windows updates
  • Installed Outlook 2019 updates
  • Uninstalled printer, shut down, reinstalled printer and tried installing scan to email, but get an error that this option is not available on this printer (it is an available feature because I used it yesterday, and two other computers are using this function on this printer).
  • Checked that I have latest software.
  • Searched for new drivers.
  • Opened the printer settings using the IP address of the printer and tried to install scan to email, but it says option not available.
  • Checked the settings on the other computers where this feature is working and everything appears identical software, drivers, settings.

Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to HP support community.

Configure the Scan to E-mail feature again

Locate the IP address.

  • From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Connection Information  button, and then touch the Network Connected button or the Network Wi-Fi ON button to display the IP address or host name.
  • Open a Web browser, and in the address line, type the IP address or host name exactly as it displays on the printer control panel. Press the Enter key on the computer keyboard. The EWS opens.

Follow these steps to configure

  1. Click the System tab.

  2. On the left navigation pane, click the Administration link.

  3. In the Enabled Features area, set the Scan to Email option to On.

  4. Click the Scan tab.

  5. On the left navigation pane, click the Outgoing E-mail Profiles link.

  6. On the Outgoing E-mail Profiles page, click the New button.

  7. In the E-mail Address area, complete the following fields:

    1. In the Your E-mail Address field, enter the sender’s email address for the new outgoing email profile.

    2. In the Display Name field, enter the sender’s name. This is the name that will display on the printer control panel.

  8. In the SMTP Server Settings area, complete the following fields:

    1. In the SMTP Server field, enter the address of the SMTP server.

    2. In the SMTP Port field, enter the SMTP port number.

    3. If you are using Google™ Gmail for email service, select the Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS) check box.

  9. If the SMTP server requires authentication to send an email, complete the following fields in the SMTP Authentication area:

    1. Select the SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing e-mail messages check box.

    2. In the SMTP User ID field, enter the user ID for the SMTP server.

    3. In the SMTP Password field, enter the password for the SMTP server.

  10. To configure optional email preferences, complete the following fields in the E-mail Message Preferences area:

    1. From the Maximum Size for E-mail Message Attachments drop-down, select the maximum size for email message attachments.

    2. To automatically copy the sender on email messages sent from the profile, select the Auto CC check box.

  11. Review all the information, and then click one of the following options:

    • Save and Test: Select this option to save the information and test the connection.

    • Save Only: Select this option to save the information without testing the connection.

    • Cancel: Select this option to quit the configuration without saving.

Let me know if that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
