LaserJet 1020
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My client recently had to move from Windows 7 Pro to a new Windows 10 Pro HP ProDesk PC.

He says that since moving to Windows 10 Pro  printing via the USB connection to the LaserJet 1020 is often slow.

I note that the LaserJet 1020 driver is provided as part of Windows 10 Pro.

Please can you advise how the slow printing problem might be investigated and fixed?

@MSTechLtd,

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Excellent description of the issue. It is amply appreciated.

  • How is the printer connected? Is it a USB, wired or wireless connection?
  • Is it slow while making photocopies directly from the printer?
  • Did this occur only after upgrading to Windows 10 or was the issue there prior to this upgrade?

I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:

From this link: https://support.hp.com/ie-en/product/hp-laserjet-1020-printer-series/439423/model/439428/document/bu... (HP Printers - Slow Printing (Windows) perform all the relevant steps:

  • Step 1: Reset the printer
  • Step 2: Check the print driver settings
  • Step 3: Uninstall the print driver
  • Step 4: Reinstall the print driver
  • Step 5: Update the printer firmware
  • Step 6: Check the network status (wired and wireless connections only)
  • Additional tips

Now check if the issue gets resolved. If it continues, then download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

  • This should resolve the issue for you. There is an associated YouTube video on how to install it.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
