LaserJet MFP M28w
Linux

Hi,

I'm trying to install the LaserJet via HPLIP, but when it comes to setting up the device with the HP Device Manager the printer doesn't show up. I've tried using USB, wireless and so on, nothing works.

I manage to add the printer using the CUPS configuration tool. In this case I can even print out files, but scanning doesn't work.

My operating system: Linux Mint 17.2

I would appreciate some help!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

According below document from HPLIP which list any supported printer it do not list the Laserjet Pro M28w as a supported model for any Linux operating system:

Thank you for your answer ShlomiL!

As HPLIP supports the former models of this printer, I thought this device would also work.

Can anyone tell me when I can expect the next HPLIP release? I guess this printer should have been added by then?

Cheers!

M28W is supported starting from HPLIP 3.18.4. You can see it here: https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index

3.18.x looks impossible to install to install on my Debian 9.5 (the current stable version) machine (which by default has 3.16.11), either using the experimental repository (3.18.6) or the sourceforge latest version (3.18.7). Broken dependencies with both...
I bought one of these today and I'm starting to get angry. I'll have to use W10 for printing and scanning until I find a solution...
Did you manage to install your printer?
BTW, Mint 17.2 is quite old (it will only be supported till 2019), maybe you should upgrade...

Hi Stefano,

I'm still using Mint 17.2 and I have now version 3.18.6 installed, and everything's working fine.

I have to use the XSane Image scanning program for scanning though; Simple Scan doesn't work. (As far as I remember. I can't tell you for sure, as I'm not at home right now, but I'm pretty sure that XSane is the program to use for scanning once you've managed to get your printer to work.)

Hello guys, no luck here, on latest hplip: 3.19.3
Linux Mint 19.1 (kernel 4.18.0-15-generic)

It doesn't scan either via wi-fi or usb.
