LaserJet P1505n
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

We had a power outage lasting an hour.  As expected, I had to start the printer using the button on the front.  It cycled, and the green light came on.  I can't print from either Mac computer (one is wired to the network and the other one uses wi-fi.  The LaserJet is connected to my home network thru a switch.  All other devices connected to the switch work.  I moved the printer to a different port with no difference.  Both Macs have been rebooted and still no luck.  The LaserJet has been power cycled several times.  It is protected by a home surge protector and a surge-protected power strip - all other devices on the strip work.

  • Please check if it copies correctly. If it is able to make copies directly, then you could use the printer as a USB printer.
  • You could follow the steps to uninstall the printer from scratch again. then reinstall the printer drivers and instead of using an Ethernet cable, please use a USB cable to connect the printer. It should fix the issue for you. Please follow the steps from this link: http://hp.care/2uZXpi8  to connect the printer and set it up via USB cable.
  • this should do the trick for you. If it does not, then the printer's hardware is faulty.

Please contact HP phone support as the printer's hardware might be faulty as it does not print the test page now. It requires one interaction on the phone to sort this out. Please follow the steps from my previous link to contact HP Tech support. The printer might be faulty and may require a replacement or an upgrade.

Trust me, I've done all I can to assist you, by keeping your best interest in mind. I honestly hope the product works great and stays healthy for a long time.

Hi @Kwajmeck,

Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you. 🙂 I reviewed the post regarding assistance with printing after a power outage.  I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require information regarding this:

  • Did you bypass power strips and check again?
  • Did you try to print a test page or make copies directly from the printer and check again?

For a start please try these steps:

  • Please, hard reset the printer again from this link: http://hp.care/2igBvRp and perform the steps in step 1 for a hard reset.
  • Make sure to connect the printer directly to the wall outlet bypassing power strips.
  • Then try to print a test page by following the steps in step 2.
  • Also, try to make at least 1 copy directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.

If it fails to copy, the printer has a hardware issue and need to be replaced by contacting HP phone support.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty

If it copies fine please follow these steps

  •  Please reset the Mac printing system from this link: http://hp.care/2gOrf2g and then add the printer as an HP printer.

1.) Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.

2.) Click Printers and Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.

3.) In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.

4.) Click the Add button.

5.) Find, and then select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

6.) Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer.

7.) Avoid the AirPrint driver. Once the correct HP driver is chosen, select Add to add the printer to the list.

8.) Try to print.

This should fix the issue.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a terrific week ahead. 🙂

H9i DavidSMP. Thanks for your help!

I have tried the applicable steps (i.e., can't copy, no airprint), and no luck.  However, I replaced the Ethernet cable, and it worked - for one copy. I was able to print a self test page, but it still showed no connection.   I tried to print other pages, but no luck.  I moved the cable on the switch to different ports, patch board locations, new cable again - still nothing.  I used the MacBook Pro with no luck - neither could find the printer.  The green status light, next to the Ethernet cable entering the printer, is always a solid green.  The yellow light flashes intermittently, as I believe it should.  I bypassed the power strip and went directly to a different outlet.

After switching power sources, replacing cables etc., I can no longer print a status page - it just sits there.  I tried to find it, and I did.  However, it cannot be found to print.

I let it sit for 5 mins with no power.  When re-connected, I was again able now to add it to the list of available printers.  It printed a tiny portion of the test page, and it could not be found when I tried to print a page.

I'm done.  Is there anything else I can do?
