HP LaserJet Pro 400 color Printer M451 series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I do mailings for my business.  It seems a business letter with about 3 different colors for print will jam if I put in a job of 50 or more.  I may start jamming around after around 30 pages.  Then, I will put in the same job for only 20 prints and it may start jamming at 10 or 15.  The more I print, the more it jams.  The jams are always exactly the same.  It is in the back.  I open the back and take out the paper.  About 1/4 is printed already.  Then I start again.

Is the printer over-heating from too much use?  Or something else.

Thank you for your help.  I love the printer.  It is a workhorse and I have had it since 2013.

Carol,

I am not sure if the printer has the ability to print to this type of paper. Was the printer printing on this type of paper before without any issues?

I recommend to do a pape path test or just print something in 50 copies in A4 standard plain paper from tray-2.

If the printer passes this test, then nothing is wrong with the printer and probably you will have to change your paper and find a compatible/appropriate one for your printer. HP recommends using its paper with ColorLok technology which is best for laser printers.

If the printer does not passes this test then that leads us to the conclusion that something is wrong with the printer itself.

cheers

Hi Carol,

We will have to isolate the problem first.

When this issue first started to appear? Was the printer working fine before?

What paper size and type are you using when it jams?

Have you tried to print with a different type of paper?

I am waiting for more information about your issue.

Cheers!

Thank you Alex for your reply.  I am using 24lb Xerox paper colored in green.  The settings I put on my HP printer properties are colorded paper.  I tried changing to intermediate thickness; i.e. 85 - 95g and it doesn't make a difference.  It seems I have to print 1 and then wait a little and print again.  Hard to do since I have 300 letters to print.  Yesterday, I spent all day printing 300 letter and I have 300 more to do today.  What do you think?

I did not see where is the buttom to "accept as solution" because I believe that was the solution.  I printed the same thing on plain white paper 20 lb and no problem even as many as 20 plus copies.

It was jamming at 5 copies with the xerox colored paper so I believe that was the issue.  I will certainly use the HPcolored paper.  What is the exact name so I will order it correctly.  I prefer 24 lb but if that is not available, I will use the 20 lb.

Thank you.
