I cannot get my printer to connect to the router. When I try to set it up it tells me to push the WPS button on the router, it searches, but nothing happens. Everything else in our home is connected to the router no problem, so I can't figure out what the issue is.

Printer works perfectly when connected to computer via USB.

I've gone through the instructions here: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c03895304 but I don't understand where the "Wireless Setup Wizard button" is (haven't seen anything like that scrolling through the printer menu), or where I'm supposed to be entering a network name or password, since there's nowhere to input on the printer itself.

Hey there! @annoyedlist, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues connecting your printer to the router.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes to your PC?

Have you enabled the wireless button on your printer?

Please try the steps recommended below.

Perform a wireless network diagnostic test
From the product control panel, you can run a diagnostic test that provides information about the wireless
network settings.

1. On the product control panel, press the Setup button.
2. Select Network Setup, and then select Wireless Menu.
3. Select Network Test, and then press the OK button. The product prints a test page that shows test
results.

The wireless network is not functioning
1. Make sure that the network cable is not connected.
2. To verify if the network has lost communication, try connecting other devices to the network.
3. Test network communication by pinging the network.
a. Open a command-line prompt on your computer. For Windows, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and
then press Enter.
b. Type ping followed by the router IP address.
For Mac OS X, open the Network Utility, and then supply the IP address in the correct ƭeld in the
Ping pane.
c. If the window displays round-trip times, the network is working.
4. Make sure that the router or product connects to the same network that the computer connects to.
a. Print a conƭgurDtion page.
b. Compare the service set identiƭer (SSID) on the conƭgurDtion report to the SSID in the printer
conƭgurDtion for the computer.
c. If the numbers are not the same, the devices are not connecting to the same network. 5econƭgure
the wireless setup for the product.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Hi there. No other changes made to computer prior/network prior to adding printer. Wireless button printer definitely enabled. Here's what I get with the Network Diagnostic Test:

Wireless On: Pass

Wireless Working: Pass

Network Name (SSID) Found: Fail

Security: Not Run

Printer settings consistent with wireless router settings: Pass

No Filtering: Not Run

Connected: Not Run

Signal Strength: Not Run

Other Networks Detected Matching Your Network Name (SSID): Not Run

Wireless Networks Detected: 0

Disconnect Count: 0

Channel: 0

Cable has been disconnected. All other devices connected to network are connecting/working properly. Ran the ping test and everything is working fine.

@annoyedlist, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

What is the router name you are using?

HP Printers do not work or connect to 5Ghz networks. If you are using a dual band router, please give different names to 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz networks and connect the printer to the 2.4Ghz network.

If you need to know how to change the channel on your router, please contact your internet service provider for more assistance.

Or you can uninstall the printer software from your MAC PC and Convert from a USB connected printer to wireless.

Refer this article to know more information about Converting from a USB connected printer to wireless.

To uninstall printer software from your MAC PC try the steps recommended below.

Click Finder in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, then open the HP or Hewlett-Packard folder.
If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it, then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, then click Go.
The Printers folder opens.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
Restart the Mac.
Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, then select Empty Trash.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
