I just purchased a LaserJet Pro MFP M177FW and got it working. The only issues I'm having are:

(1) the printer doesn't sleep no matter what value I supply to the sleep timer

(2) the printer re-calibrates every 15-30 minutes, whcih is quite noisy

I have tried powering the unit off and on several times and have tried unplugging the power for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. The issue still persists.

Can anyone provide assistance on how to get sleep to work and how to get the printer to stop calibrating?

I was actually able to resolve this issue eventually, however none of the suggestions above helped at all.

What seemed to fix the issue was changing when the printer performed calibration. I set it to "immediately" instead of "after 15 minutes". The printer has idled successfully since making that change.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions!

Hi neflyte,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I understand the printer is calibrating every 15-30 minutes and won't go into sleep mode.

I will be happy to help you.

I would do a power reset to see if that will resolve the issue.

With the printer still turned on, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.

Then disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet. Wait 10 seconds and reconnect the power cable back to the wall outlet first, then the back of the printer and power it on again.

Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)

Update the printer's firmware. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw Drivers.

Select your operating system, click next, click the link for firmware.

I have provided the instructions from the manual for setting the sleep mode.

Touchscreen control panel.

1. From the Home screen on the product control panel, touch the Setup button.

2. Open the following menus:

● System Setup

●Energy Settings

●Sleep/Auto Off After

3. Select the time for the Sleep/Auto Off delay. NOTE: The default value is 15 Minutes.

4.The product automatically wakes when it receives jobs or when you touch the screen on the product

control panel. You can change which events cause the product to wake.

Open the following menus:

● System Setup

● Energy Settings

● Wake/Auto On Events

To turn off a wake event, select the event, and then select the No option.

If you are still having issues I would recommend to contact HP Tech Support for further assistance.

Contact HP Worldwide.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, the printer still refuses to go to sleep. However it only calibrates one time now, so that issue is fixed.

There are no firmware updates available for my printer.

I also tried disconnecting the network (including the wireless network), leaving the power cable as the only cable attached. The printer still did not sleep after 5 minutes.

Does anyone else have any ideas I could try?

Hi there,
I understand your Laserjet M177fw will not go into sleep mode. I would recommend you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet and not into a surge protector / power bar.
