iMac 27"
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I recently purchased a Laser Jet Pro and I cannot seem to connect my iMac to the printer with a standard USB (male connector - male connector).  I located a USB port on the rear of the printer and connected the printer to my iMac.  My iMac does not recognize the printer.  If I am using the wrong cable, what exact kind of cable should I be using?  The instruction manual provides absolutely no guidance on the type of cable to use.   I am a cranky, old, technologically-challenged user.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

You need an USB cable for printer which is similar to the following cable

You can buy from a good computer shop for few dollars.
