What do you mean by standard printer cable.  A standard printer cable is usb or parallel.  Since your printer does not have a parallel port I can only assume you are actually using a usb printer cable and do not realize it or have the network version and are trying to use a ethernet network cable to connect.  It ethernet how are you connecting the cable?  If usb printer cable plug the computer side in and see if the computer says found new hardware and follow the online instructions.

I have a multi pinned d shaped connector parallel printer cable. How does that effect the connection.

The printer will print, but as it is a all in one ,the scanner interface doesn't.

Sorry did not know you were referring to the older hp laserjet 3015.  The current series is the P3015 which is not all in one and does not have a parallel port.  As far as the scanner is concerned unless you can get the os to see if you are probably out of luck.  The printer came with a software package but the last supported os I think was XP.  Printer came out in 2004 and I think support stopped in 2007.  They issued printer drivers for this printer for all operating systems up to and including windows 10, but have not issued the full software solution software since xp.  The full solution only works on windows 2000 and xp.
