Help!

I have been having problems with my M225DW laserjet printer, and the scanner and copier not working.

I have tried all the suggestions on the web in terms of hard resetting etc., and I tried a "power drain" (holding the power button for 30 seconds when it is off), and now the screen reads "Scanner Error 16" and I've no idea what to do to get the printer working again.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Nick, Bristol, UK

Hey there! @TheKitchenMan, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues scanning or copying from your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you tried scanning from a different application?

Try updating the printer firmware and check if it helps.

Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here

Try few steps recommended below.

Clean the plastic and glass strips inside the document feeder with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

   NOTE:

Some printers ship with a document feeder cleaning cloth. If you have the cloth, load it into the document feeder and start a scan job to clean the scanner mechanism.

  1. Turn the printer off, disconnect the power cord, and remove the battery if your printer has one.

  2. Depending on your printer model, open any top cover, document feeder tray, and scan document feeder cover.

  3. Remove any debris such as bits of paper or paper clips from inside the document feeder.

  4. Spray a soft, lint-free cloth with glass cleaner, then wipe the scanner glass and the white strip on the underside of the document feeder until clean, dry, and streak-free.

       CAUTION:

To protect the interior printer parts, do not spray the cleaner directly on or into the printer.

  5. Completely close any covers and trays that you opened.

  6. Reconnect the power cord, reinstall the battery if necessary, then turn on the printer.

  7. Load the original document or photo, then try to scan. Make sure the original document or photo is in good condition and free of tears, creases, folds, staples, or tape.

Hi MrRobot

Thanks for your reply.

I can't do anything with the printer as it is stuck on initializion or, if it gets through that, then it just says "Scanner Error 16".  This seemed to happen when I held the power button in for 30 seconds with the power cord disconnected.  I wonder if there is some way of hard-resetting that will clear this?

Because of the daily need for printing, I've already had to buy and install a new M426DW, which is great, but I would like to get the M225DW working as it's only 2 years from new installed.  Our last HP printer lasted 16 years!

Thanks!

Nick

@TheKitchenMan, Thanks for your quick response and time again.

As you mentioned your printer is stuck at initializing. Try performing an NVRAM reset and check if it helps.

Also, as the steps to perform an NVRAM reset is confidential. I will share you the steps in a private message.

HI MrRobot

Thanks for your reply.

I would be very interested to try an NVRAM reset and see if that works.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards, and thank you for your time!
