Most common issue is that the driver does not detect that printer is duplex capable. The easy fix is this and will solve most cases of this problem.

On your PC, go to control panel>devices and printers and right click on the icon for your printer and select "printer properties" from the dropdown menu. Click on the device settings tab and scroll down to installed options and find the duplex option and if it is set to not installed, change it to installed.

Or you can try HP Print and Scan Doctor. https://support.hp.com/ca-en/help/printscandoctor

Thank you.

It seems ridiculous that this setting would just be "lost" when the printer was installed on a new network, but your solution worked - and saved what's left of my hair. Much appreciated.

Problem  disappeared after accessing the printer from another computer, remains mystery
