Hello! I am also having problems with the 5Ghz on my M281fdw wireless printer. Everything in my house is on the 5Ghz network (my router has both). When my printer is on 2.4 and also my laptop or iPhone is in 2.4Ghz also, it works fine. But when my printer is on 5Ghz and my devices are in either network, it doesn’t recognize the printer. Please help, I need to have the 5Ghz network up and running at home. Thanks

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting printer connectivity issue.

I am eager to assist you.

HP printers only support the 2.4GHz band. If your router is set to the 5GHz band, the printer cannot connect to the network.

I hope that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos.

Cheers.

Hello. Are you sure about this? Then why does my M281fdw says it supports 5Ghz? I even can select the band in the touch screen.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, all HP printers supports only 2.4GHz, could you please send me the screenshot of the printer display showing 5 GHz option.

Cheers.

And this is from the HP website, clearly showing this printer supports both bands.3EA778BF-6424-4BA8-A49F-68CC2E67329F.jpeg

Thanks for replying.

As @sandytechy20 is out of the office today, I'm replying to you.

I checked the product specs and found that the printer has a wireless capability of built-in Dual band 802.11n 2.4/5GHz.

One commons reason for it to not work is because if your router is on any other network apart from 802.11n. Therefore, I suggest you to check with your network administrator and have the router switch to 802.11n 5GHz.

After this you may have the printer connected to the network.

Also, you need to ensure that if both are enabled make sure that 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz have a different network name.

Once these things are in place the printer should be able to connect.

I hope this information helps. Let me know how it goes.

Good luck 🙂

SandyTechy,

You are 100% WRONG - the M281fdw printer is dual-band Wi-Fi and works perfectly in the 5ghz band. That is my band of preference and my unit is running on 5 ghz right this very minute.

julianruiz24 -  reset your machine; select 5ghz band and make sure your router is sending out an SSID on the 5 ghz band.

You should then see the SSID show up as an access point on the display of the M281fdw. Select it and enter your password and you should be "good to go". Otherwise, it appears you may have a defective Wi-Fi card in your M281fdw.

Good Luck!
