PPDs can be obtained from the individual driver files for a given printer model.  I have extracted teh PPD from HPs universal print drivers in the past to expose the information our legacy print applications require.  Mainly for mainframe printing purposes.

General steps:

1. Identify a compatible printer driver you want to use

2. Install the printer using that print driver on a PC

3. Navigate to the printer properties area

4. Click the About Tab for more information

5. Review the particular .PPD filename that is used by that print driver

6. Search your machine for that .PPD file,

Note - Its usually somewhere in teh C:\windows\system32\spool folder

7. Extract the inforamation from the .PPD that you need by openign the file with a text viewer like notepad

Enjoy
