My printer, connected to wifi asked me to install an update which I did.

At the end of the update the printer restart and then I got the nice 49 error.

I have no pending print request on the spooler.

I tried to connect via usb to the printer but as the printer do not start but always restart, my computer is not able to connect to it. Therefore, I am not able to perform the firmware update via the different HP tools.

I also tried to perform a factory reset with the magic touches but the printer continue to have the same problem.

Is it possible to force firmware update via printer USB port during printer startup ?

Thanks for your help! I don't want to change my printer due to a faulty firmware update.

If it still fails and you can not resend firmware through USB connected then you may need to replace the formatter.

A 49 error is usually indicative of a bad formatter at this point, like the other post stated. There really isn't much you can do to perform another firmware update when in an error state like this. To replace the formatter, you simply remove the right side cover. Remove the paper cassette, open the front door, gently pry the back end of the right side cover away from the back and towards the right side. It should start to unclip as you pull it away from the printer towards the front. The formatter is right behind the right cover.

this morning I tried to reset again the printer and it worked ! I guess I had both a print pending and firmware update problem.

thanks a lot for your help
