Whenever I print a moderately large file (eg a 20 page report in either Word or PDF) the printer prints a number of pages and then throws up an error message. A minute later it then prints the entire document again from the start. If the file is particularly large this can happen several times. This is very wasteful mof paper, ink and my time. Any ideas please?

Try breaking your large print job into smaller chunks. This will isolate any document corruption to one are or another. It will also help us confirm if document size/page number has anything to do with the problem or not.
I suspect this is a print stream corruption issue that is caused by a conflict between the application and the print driver. Yes, you can turn off the reprint on error feature of the driver, but the bigger problem is the corruption. To solve those issues you need to either update your App, update your driver or switch to an alternative print driver.
The 277dw is compatible with HPs Universal Print Drivers. Try downloading and installing a UPD with the Post Script language and see if that helps. UPDs can be found on HPs support website.

Please confirm the error message with a screenshot or an exact text copy of the message.
You may have your print queue configured to reprint any failed print jobs. This is something that can be turned off. The printer is going to print whatever print jobs are sent to it. The PC needs to make sure the jobs are formatted in a way that the printer can understand. The process of converting application data into printer constructions is the duty of the printer driver.

Thanks. The message just says "Error orinting on [printername]
Do you know how I can switch this configuration off? If I'm understanding you correctly, this would explain why it reprints everything from scratch after failing, but not why large files consistently fail in the first place.
