After more than a year of a proper and automatic behavior (printing from Tray 2 as default), this started happening (there might have been one power down and a network disconnect, I am not sure, nevertheless...). Every print from the PC (wired LAN) or WiFi now tries to feed from Tray 1 first (a default tray?). The Tray 1 is empty, and it has been set up (from the printer's menu) to hold an envelope as paper type and size (and the printer powered down for a minute). When I hit OK on the message, Letter format prints fine from Tray 2. But this manual intervention is ANNOYING! There are no jams, or other messages. Why the insistence on Tray 1 when it is supposed to hold an envelope??

print a configuration page and look at your tray/paper settings.  make sure everything is set the way you want it.  go into the print driver and select printer preferences, make sure everything in the paper/tray setup matches with what your printer says.  you typically see this problem when there is a size mismatch.  you can also check in the printer menu that the MP tray is not set to print exclusively.
