Having set up this printer, I can print wirelessly, once.
Thereafter, it fails to "wake" and am prompted that the PC failed to communicate with printer.
This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to print.
I am prompted to open the Hp Print and Scan Doctor - which is effectively useless as it fails to communicate.
Rebooting the Printer works - but what is the point in having a wireless printer if you need to go an reboot it every single time?
The Print and Scan doctor seems to be the single biggest waste of time (after the printer that doesn't print).
If I select "Software and Drvier downloads" or my product I am redirected to a page for a Compaq Presario Laptop (I am using Dell) and not for the printer the "print doctor" is trying to find downloads for.
It is laughably incompetent.
I have a printer - any chance I can print? Or can you give me a bit of software that actually tries to help?

Hi,
From your description it seems likely due to any communication issue.
What is your exact printer model? is it the M254nw or the M254dw? please clarify as the menu layout is different for both model...
Generally, how far is it located from your router? ensure it is not too far, but not closer than 2 meters away as well..
If the WiFi quality shown on the printer is low try mooving it closer to your router and check..

It is an M254nw. The wireless test report shows a "Very Good" signal and it is about 8 feet from the access point, as is the PC.
It prints absolutely fine if it is awake, provided it has just been switched on. If it goes to sleep it will neither wake nor print when you manually wake it. A power cycle is th eonly way to print.
Simiarly the Airprint option fails every time. If you reboot the iPhone it will print (assuming printer is awake), but in no instance, ever, will it print when asleep.

Thanks for clarifying.
Try installing the latest firmware below and check if that may help:
I would highly suggest temporarly connect the printer with a cable to perform the update to deny any poissibility loosing the connection during the update
Fixed an issue that printer would drop off from wireless network intermittently.
Please let me know how it goes,
Shlomi

OK uninstalled everything. Reset printer to defaults. Ignored the CD and went to the website for recent drivers. Followed the process exactly.
It now prints - once, then nothing.
If I wire it via ethernet it works every time. If I connect it wirelessly it simply does not work.
I have tried removing wireless APs so I only have one, orints once then nothing
I have tried changing the AP brand - prints once then nothing
I have tried removing wireless security - prints once then nothing.
If I leave it an hour - it basically will not wake. It goes offline and will not come back online.
Airprint works once, then nothing - iPhone doesn't see any printers
I have disabled IPv6, to see if that helps Airprint as this seemed to be a thing on some forums that neither Apple nor HP seemed to publicly admit.
I know the network is solid as I have a PC running SNMP through the same AP to the router.
The printer says the signal strength is very good.
It seems clear to me that the printer is simply unable to perform as a wireless printer - you cannot even appear to disable the sleep mode.
If I wake the printer - it still doesn't print.
When I send a print job it fails and prompts me to use the Print and Scan doctor - which also cannot see the printer and cannot fix it - just suggests power cycling it - which works but is not exactly a fix everytime I want to print.
Interestingly if I hardwire and ethernet cable to it and run the print and scan doctor it repeatedly finds a port problem. Says it is fixed, but everytime I run it (wired) it finds the same problem every time.
I have tried the driver set up on 4 x PC's. Same result on each one.
I am about to box it up and send it back.

OS - Mac OS 10.12.6, Printer M254dw Wireless
Set up systmen in April. Worked fine for months. Still works fine with other Mac in the area.
One day, printer stopped printing with this computer. Specifically, upon issuing a print command, printer window opens, it says "Printer - connected to the printer, and the bar fills up as it normally would. However, it does not print. When I pause and restart, the bar does not fill in.
Ran system tests on the printer and everything is OK; removed and readded the printer IP address to my Mac.
I am out of ideas, and would be grateful for suggestions. Thank you.
