When trying to set a password for WiFi-Direct option through the setup page (Firefox 55.0.3) after applying it confirms the password has been set, however - upon connecting to the WiFi Direct no password what-so-ever is required, completely unsecure.

I've attempted to:  (For each system/device...)

  • Set a personal password
  • Set a generated password
  • Turning WiFi-Direct OFF, then ON again
  • Factory resetting the printer, reconnecting to home network and started from scratch setting up WiFi-Direct

None of above had any success dispite trying over and over again.

Attempts has been made through various systems, various versions:

  • Linux (Android, Arch, Ubuntu),
  • Mac (OS X, iOS)
  • Windows (non-portable only)

...regardless of device used - NO PASSWORD REQUIRED to connect dispite password being confirmed set. (And yes, any saved previously used connection to this printer was deleted inbefore attempts and password changes on printer had impact what-so-ever.)

Screenshot of setup with generated password:  (NOTE:  After applying, printer has been rebooted and re-accessed before screenshot is taken to be possitive it stored the password permanently.)

So...

The big question:  How to set a password for WiFi Direct? Any suggestions?

Would be nice to not leave it open for unauthorized printing.

Thank you @DavidSMP,

Firmware was up to date allready.

Patience is a virtue, but none of mine unfortunately. However as the regular VRAM reset didn't work out, I tried the the Super VRAM reset and it worked like a charm. Annoying to re-configure the printer and all that... but all's good now.

Marking topic as solved.
